The Best Poster Award (BPA) at HPLC 2022 San Diego is exclusively sponsored by Agilent Technologies, a global leader in life sciences, diagnostics, and applied chemical markets. Awards, valued at 500 USD each will be presented to the authors of ten best posters selected in a peer-review process.

Presentation of scientific work on a poster is an efficient way to disseminate, share, and discuss results with peers, show progress in understanding fundamental aspects of separation science, new instrumental methods, as well as applications of chromatography and electrophoresis. Poster presentations are an opportunity to enter the scientific world, especially for young scientists.

An international panel of scientists will review BPA participating posters.

All participating posters will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Novelty, originality, and creativity of the work.
  • The scope of the work, the quality of the experimental design, and practical execution.
  • The presentation of the poster, especially the author's presence, and explanation during the designated poster session.
  • Impact of the work like the potential for innovation, on progressing separation science or the research work involved, economic and societal aspects, or the use in science teaching.

Participants in the BPA have to prepare their poster on a preformatted PowerPoint slide, size 40"x40". The usage of this template is mandatory.

Prepare using the template  → Print your poster → Bring it with you to HPLC 2022

Details follow.

The Best Poster Awards at HPLC 2022 San Diego consists of a certificate and the cash prize. Poster presenters who make it into the final round are asked to stay until the Best Poster Award ceremony during the closing plenary session on Thursday afternoon, June 23.

Instructions for BPA poster preparation

All posters submitted for participation in the Best Poster Award competition must use a preformatted PowerPoint template. This template can be downloaded here. Store the template locally. After downloading, the template opens with a double click in PowerPoint as a new presentation. You can use both Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows and for Mac. Preliminary tests showed that Keynotes on a Mac computer opens the template correctly. Libre Office Impress does not opens the template properly and its use is discouraged.

Next, store the template as a PowerPoint presentation. Click the "Save" button on the top of the window. You are prompted to name the file and specify a location for storage. Alternatively, click CTRL+S or select "File" on the PowerPoint menu ribbon. You will see "Save as" on the next window, allowing you to do the same.

The template is formated 100 x 100 cm resp. 40"x40". There please use the font type and size given in the containers.

In the top container, enter the title of your poster. The font type is Calibri, and the size is 100 pt. If your title does not fit on two lines, the font size will automatically decrease.

In the next container, enter the name, affiliation, and e-mail address of the corresponding author. Add co-author names and affiliations as appropriate. Underline the presenting author's name. The font size is 60 pt. The font size is reduced in case of text-overflow.

On the left side, there is a 7x10 cm container for the logo of your institute or company. If this container is clicked, you will be prompted for a graphical file.

The poster itself is divided into three sectors. The left sector contains four containers for Background and Introduction, Purpose or Theory of the work,  Objective of the work on this poster, essential information on Experimental details. The middle sector is for results, which may continue in the right sector. Add also the Conclusions and the authors' thoughts on the Impact and Outlook of this research in this sector.

All containers expand their size automatically and are mandatory for each poster. Each container should have a header as given on the template. However, you can be flexible and rename a container, use other fonts as long as the principle structure of the poster template is conserved. But be aware, substantial deviation from the template may cause the poster to be taken out of competition.

Besides the sponsor logo, on the bottom left of the template, there is 8x16 cm space to place Q-Codes. These can refer to the poster itself and additional tables, figures, videos, photos, PDFs of your papers, etc. It can also enable submission of a request for e-mailing for more information, or else you deem important. Collect references and acknowledgments in the large container on the right.
